2   We know not what the path may
As yet by us untrod; I But we can trust our all to Thee, Our Father and our God.
3  But if some darker lot be good,

4  Christ by no flowery pathway came;
And we, His followers here, Must do Thy will and praise Thy name, In hope, and love, and fear.
5  And, till in heaven we sinless bow,
And faultless anthems raise, O Father, Son, and Spirit, now Accept our feeble praise.
Rev. William J. Irons. 1844

1 Thy love the power of thought bestowed; To Thee my thoughts would soar: Thy mercy o'er my life has flowed; That mercy I adore.
3 In each event of life, how clear Thy ruling hand I see! Each blessing to my soul more dear Because conferred by Thee.
4  In every joy that crowns my days,
In every pain I bear, My heart shall find delight in praise, Or seek relief in prayer.
5   My lifted eye, without a tear,
The gathering storm shall see; My steadfast heart shall know no fear; That heart will rest on Thee.
Helen Maria Williams, 1786
